Do the people who support prop 8 think that they’re going to catch teh Gay if Californians legislate marriage equality for everyone in the state? What “tradition” are they trying to protect? The tradition of fear and hatred?
Are you registered to vote yet?
A member of my family, who shall remain nameless but who should know better, told me they would not be voting this year, because they can’t stand either of the presidential candidates.
First? That’s just stupid. Your vote is your voice and if you give up your vote, you are giving up your voice and do you really want to be silent when it comes to how this nation is being run? Don’t be stupid, of course you want a voice. It’s why you live in a democracy. Are you going to take your toys and go home because you don’t like the way the game is being played this round? Excuse me while I beat my head against this handy brick wall.
Second. There are other things on the ballot. California has a whole bunch of ballot initiatives that are really important. Clean energy, Prop 4 – the misleading and lame “Sarah’s Law” – marriage equality… this is important stuff, folks.
So fine, if you don’t like either of the presidential candidates, don’t vote for them. Write in Bugs Bunny or Mal Reynolds if you must. But vote for the other stuff anyway. It matters.
Your voice matters.

My husbands lunatic friend was over here yesterday telling us how he’s voting Republican even though he can’t stand Palin and barely tolerates McCain but that he’s “always” voted Republican.. so that’s what he’s doing again. I wish he’d just go vote for Mickey Mouse. *head/desk*
I’m registered and ready to vote in the early election dates here in GA.. I’ll be voting within the week. Hubby found out too late that he was marked inactive and is unable to vote this year… I’m very sad because he’s recently decided to vote for Obama and now he can’t vote! *sigh*
Amen to that!
I’d vote for Mal Reynolds any day!
I never understand when people say they don’t bother voting because their “vote doesn’t matter”. Sure, it’s one in millions and millions, but what if everyone that felt that way suddenly voted? When only the same people vote election after election, those people that don’t vote wonder why things never change.
Maybe the problem is our sense of individuality…I think what people don’t always realize is that there are actually hundreds of other people just like them out there. Not to say each one of us isn’t different and special to a degree…but really…there are usually more people out there that share your beliefs and interests than you think.
Katie, I don’t understand it either.
Our vote matters because that is our voice. Each voice matters so much. Why did our grandmothers and their mothers march and fight so hard to get the right for us to vote, if it didn’t matter? Maybe they knew something we take for granted.
And there are SEVERAL other people on the ballot. If you don’t like the Dem or Rep, then vote Green or Libertarian or whatever else you want. Then your voice gets heard and your choice may not get elected, but you’ve used your vote to say that you didn’t care for either of the first two.
