Around this time last year, I got the bright idea to start a creative business and work out of my house. Because my oldest child had moved out and my youngest child and I were more apt to eat dinner in the living room, I turned the dining room into my workspace.
Heh.
No really. You’ll see why I’m laughing in a minute.
When this space looked like this, I was still afraid to cut into those first few strands of gemstones. I had never paid sales tax, or done a craft show, or forged an earwire. A year and a few weeks later, I’ve got a thriving online business, many art and craft shows under my belt, and I’m about 4 months away from opening a brick and mortar location at CRAFTED at the Port of Los Angeles. My lovely lightfilled dining room has been a fantastic incubator for my creative endeavors. Proximity to tea has been delightfully convenient and yes, Honey&Ollie creations *are* fueled by gallons of Harney tea (Russian Country blend ftw!). I’m going to miss the workspace.
But it’s hard to deny that I’ve outgrown it completely.
Believe it or not, we actually crammed 12 people into that space for Thanksgiving dinner this year.
Yeah. It’s time to move to bigger spaces. And I’m in the middle of doing just that.
Because it’s hard to work or ship when things are in such disarray, I’m suspending shipping for the online shop this week. I’m still open for orders, but nothing is getting mailed out till next Thursday, 2/23. To say thanks for your patience during our move, you can use the code OLLIEFREE in the shop and get free shipping on any online Etsy orders placed between today and next Wednesday, the 22nd.
Shots of the new space soon. For now, things are messy. And exciting!

Hurrah! Best of luck on your new venture.
This is all so exciting. You have done so much in such a short time. How did you do it? I struggle daily trying to figure out a way to “get going” in this business and I seem to run out of time and energy. You should be so proud of yourself. Any tips would be greatly appreciated:O)
Good luck with the moving and re-arranging! How exciting it that!!!!!!!!!
