Playing with fire

Last week I talked a little bit about the gap and confessed to being deeply scared of getting into all those little packets of PMC+ that I had lying about the place. Which naturally meant that I had to get into the little packets of PMC lying about the place.

And then I had to play with fire.

Firing PMC+

and a funny thing happened.

Carrie

I made the piece that’s been kicking around in my brain since last January, when I took my first PMC intro class from the totally awesomesauce Delia Traister. The piece that’s been bouncing around my sketchbook in various incarnations. It manifested itself right off my workbench, into the fire and then into being.

I’m calling it “Carrie” after a sweet friend, and it’s the first of several new designs that I’m adding to the Stories in Stone collection. Pieces inspired by amazing women, authors, books, poems and stories.

I don’t know if I’ve mentioned this, but I’m a big fantasy and science fiction reader. I love urban fantasy, and while I am selective about the genre, I also do love me some good paranormal erotic/romantic fantasy from time to time. I mean, Mon Capitan Sexypants has to go home sometimes and what’s a girl gonna do? Pick up a good book, that’s what.

So how excited was I that the author Ilyana Knight, who just released the awesome book Pretty Death, likes Honey&Ollie? Mmmhmm, that’s right y’all, she’s got good taste in earrings to go with those authorly chops. She said nice things about me in her blog, y’all. Super nice things!

Okay this got me pretty damn excited.

And THEN how excited was I to find out that she’s a gamer? Because, you know, I pretty much live for my weekly D&D game. So she’s a gamer, writes kick ass paranormal fantasy, and wears my designs? Yep, I’m a fan. Queue the squee…

Pretty Death. Available for Nook, Kindle, and in print at a store near you.

The Snow Queen.

I’m so happy with these. They just came off my bench last night. Artisan lampworked glass icicles dangle from fluorite rounds and snowy white coin pearls. I picture Hans Christian Anderson’s Snow Queen wearing something like this.

The swirls in the ice remind me of Gerda and Kai dancing on the ice, the splinters dancing with them and falling down to form the word that sets Kai free.

They are up in the shop now!

A little winter tale for your ears.

The first time I ever worked with wire and beads, it was making some stitch markers for a blog giveaway. I’ve learned a lot since then! The focus of Honey&Ollie really used to be all about the fiber and the knitting. It’s shifted over the last year and change because my life has shifted. That’s ok… lives do that. It’s good to keep up with them.

I do still knit, though. And spin. And play with fiber. I’m pretty addicted to my fiber love, actually. It’s what I do when I’m not working. It’s just that I’m just pretty much ALWAYS working these days so I haven’t got a lot of finished stuff to blog about in the yarn department! As things balance out, you’ll see more fiber pop up here. I haven’t forgotten my roots!

One thing I’ve consistently been getting a lot of requests for since this whole jewelry gig started has been to sell stitch markers. I guess y’all liked them! Well, I like making them. So that’s good. I like to switch gears and put them together when a tricky design problem is rattling around in my brain. That happens pretty frequently, so I’ve got a lot of pretty little pearl stitch markers for sock and lace knitting rattling around. I’ve decided to put one or two sets up in the shop and see how they do. Because every knitter needs some fancypants goodies in his or her workbasket.
