A few learning opportunities for all y’all…
First, Deryn Mentock of Something Sublime is offering her “Build Zone” class again! Class starts October 1, she is still accepting students, and it is a phenomenal opportunity to learn some solid jewelry making basics. Deryn teaches some great techniques that give your jewelry a much more polished, finished look. I think the money I spent on her class last spring was probably some of the best I ever invested in myself and in my business and I really recommend it to any aspiring jewelry maker. Some of the work I did for her class is still right up there in my favorites ever, and I wear those pieces often.
Second, my friend and teacher Delia Traister is offering her “Color it Mine” class locally here in the San Gabriel Valley area on October 15th/16th. If you’ve ever wondered how things like resin, patinas or enamels work with metal clay, this is the class for you! Delia is a really fantastic metal clay teacher. If you haven’t played with metal clay before, she also offers Intro classes, private workshops and does parties!
I’m pretty excited because Delia and I are going to be sharing a booth at the upcoming Xiem Clay Center Fall show (November 11/12), and it’s a real honor to get to put my work next to hers. Her class is the one I took that made me think, “Wow, this is the first class of the rest of my life.” and that hopeful, brilliant moment of clarity was the reason I started a jewelry business in the first place.
I don’t get anything from mentioning these classes here, I am just a happy student who would like to share the love.
SHOW NEWS:
I will not be appearing at the Handmade Marketplace in Old Pasadena this Sunday, September 18th, because they are not having the Handmade Marketplace in Old Pasadena this Sunday! It has been postponed until Sunday, October 30th. So you probably do not want to go down there this weekend…
I am confirmed for the Piecemakers Harvest Festival, October 1st from 9am until 4pm at the Piecemakers Country Store in Costa Mesa, CA. This is a fantastic store for any fabric or fiber craft and y’all they do classes. A LOT of classes. I’ll be there with some luxury spinning fibers dyed by my sweet friend Carrie of Funky Carolina, a small selection of my handspun yarns and at this show I will be launching my new “Fancypants” line of knitting themed gemstone, pmc and mixed metal jewelry!!
A little later in October, I will be at the Griffin Dyeworks Fiber Frolic. It’s taking place on October 15th in Monrovia CA. This is a daylong event with workshops in natural dyeing, mordanting fibers, spinning, knitting, embroidery and other fiber based arts. There’s a free lunch with your admission. These folks are passionate about what they do and it is a very fun day. It’ll be my second Frolic, and my first there as a vendor. I seriously can’t wait, the last one was so much fun and really took my spinning to the next level.
More shows to come…
